CS540

First things first...

The CS540 is a convertible headset, which means it can be worn over-the-ear or over-the-head. You can also purchase the behind-the-head headband to give yourself a 3rd option. But for now, pick the wearing style you’re most comfortable with – over-the-ear or over-the-head. If it’s over-the-ear you want, the CS540 is pre-installed with the eartip and earloop. If over-the-head is more your style, remove the eartip then rotate the earloop to the right about 90 degrees then remove the earloop. Then grab the over-the-head assembly, line up the headset with the headband, connect and rotate and you’re ready to go.

Get comfy...

The CS540 comes with another size eartip and earloops. Changing eartips and earloops is fast and easy. To remove the eartip, just pull it off (gently of course). To put a new one on, just push it on (again, gently). The earloop is set for the right ear. If you want it on the left or a different size earloop, remove the eartip then rotate the earloop to the right and remove. Put the new earloop on, fit for right ear or left ear, and rotate it back. The CS540 will never be “upside down” as it is built for either ear.

Charge it up...

Plug the power supply into the back of the base then into a working outlet. The LED will be solid white if it is ON. Place the headset into the charging cradle. It has a magnetic docking station so it will settle into place easily. The charging LED will flash green when it’s charging and turn solid green when it’s fully charged. Charge it for 20-30 minutes prior to first use. It takes about 3 hours for a full charge.

Now for the exciting part...

It’s time to connect your new CS540 to your desk phone.

Without HL10 Lifter or EHS Cable
First, remove the handset coil cord from the desk phone and reconnect it to the telephone interface cable junction box located on the telephone interface cable that came in the box. Take one end of that telephone interface cable and plug in the back of the base and plug the other end into the now open handset port on your desk phone. You are ready to go. Remove the handset and press the call button the headset – you should hear a dial tone. If you want to adjust the volume, look at the bottom of the base station. There you can adjust volume as you please. If you do not hear a dial tone at all, switch letters (A-G) until you do. Make a test call – dial a number, have a nice conversation, then press the call button again to end the call and place the handset back. If you do not want to deal with physically lifting and replacing the telephone handset, then you should consider getting an HL10 lifter which does that for you.

With HL10 Lifter
First, remove the handset coil cord from the desk phone and reconnect it to the telephone interface cable junction box located on the telephone interface cable that came in the box. Take one end of that telephone interface cable and plug in the back of the base and plug the other end into the now open handset port on your desk phone. Now take the power cord from the HL10 and plug it into the handset lifter jack on the base (located between power supply outlet and interface cable jack).

Slide the HL10 lifter arm under the handset until the lifter base touches the side of the phone base. Press the call button on your headset to activate the lifter. If placed correctly, it should lift the phone handset up. Press again and it should place the handset back down to the original position. If things don’t work out this way, adjust the lifter until it lifts and replaces perfectly. Once it is just right, remove the strips from the underside of the lifter and stick it on. You can also adjust the lifter height switch on the front of the lifter between 3 settings if it doesn’t raise the handset high enough.

Now make a test call. Press the call button on the headset. The HL10 will lift the handset. Dial a number, have a nice conversation and press the call button again to end the call. The HL10 will replace the handset. Now you’re in headset heaven.
